SoC
A security operations center (SOC) is a centralized unit that deals with security issues on an organizational and technical level. A SOC within a building or facility is a central location from where staff supervises the site, using data processing technology. Typically, a SOC is equipped for access monitoring, and controlling of lighting, alarms, and vehicle barriers.
SIEM
Security information and event management (SIEM) software products and services combine security information management (SIM) and security event management (SEM). They provide real-time analysis of security alerts generated by applications and network hardware. Vendors sell SIEM as software, as appliances or as managed services; these products are also used to log security data and generate reports for compliance purposes.
SCADA
Despite the claim that critical infrastructure networks are “isolated” there is always a connection to the wider network that exposes the SCADA network to multiple attack vectors. The need for remote maintenance allowing vendor connection to the operational network constitutes an easy attack vector allowing attackers to reach straight into the network core. Field devices, dispersed in remote locations and not always secured enough provide another gateway to attack other field devices, or even worse — the SCADA control center.
OT
Operational Technology (OT) — the hardware and software dedicated to detecting or causing changes in physical processes through direct monitoring and/or control of physical devices such as valves, pumps, etc.
IoT
Network control and management of manufacturing equipment, asset and situation management, or manufacturing process control bring the IoT within the realm of industrial applications and smart manufacturing as well. The IoT intelligent systems enable rapid manufacturing of new products, dynamic response to product demands, and real-time optimization of manufacturing production and supply chain networks, by networking machinery, sensors and control systems together.
